Scripture does not give his name. Four friends, a crowded house, and a roof torn open.
The Paralytic Lowered Through the Roof
Lowered Through the Roof
Scripture gives no name
In Mark’s Gospel
Jesus was preaching in a house in Capernaum — the crowd was so thick "there was no room, not even at the door"
Mark 2:1-2
His four friends could not get near Jesus because of the crowd — so they went up on the roof, removed the roof above him, and let down the bed
Mark 2:4
Jesus "saw their faith" — the faith of the friends — and said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven"
Mark 2:5
The scribes reasoned in their hearts: "Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Mark 2:6-7
Who they were
- Helped — he had four friends who would tear open a roof for him (Mark 2:3-4)
- Forgiven first — before his legs were healed, his soul was (Mark 2:5)
- Obedient — when told to rise, he rose (Mark 2:12)
