The Man with the Withered Hand

Scripture does not give his name. Healed on the Sabbath — in front of everyone watching.

The Man with the Withered Hand

Healed on the Sabbath

Scripture gives no name

In Mark’s Gospel

  • He was in the synagogue on the Sabbath when Jesus entered

    Mark 3:1

  • The Pharisees watched him closely — "whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him"

    Mark 3:2

  • Jesus said to the man, "Step forward" — into the center, before them all

    Mark 3:3

  • Then to the watchers: "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" — But they were silent

    Mark 3:4

Who they were

  • Courageous — he stepped into the center when called (Mark 3:3)
  • Obedient — "stretch out your hand" — the impossible command, obeyed (Mark 3:5)
