Scripture does not give his name. Only Mark records him — two verses, and then he is gone.
The Young Man Who Fled
Gethsemane · The One Who Ran
Scripture gives no name
In Mark’s Gospel
When Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane and "they all forsook him and fled"
Mark 14:50
A young man followed, "having a linen cloth thrown around his naked body" — roused from sleep, grabbing the nearest covering
Mark 14:51
The soldiers seized him — and he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked
Mark 14:52
Who they were
- Curious — he followed when the disciples fled (Mark 14:51)
- Frightened — when seized, he ran (Mark 14:52)
- Human — the most relatable figure in the arrest scene: brave enough to follow, scared enough to run (Mark 14:51-52)
